I am convinced that one of the surest pathways to success is to get a
good education. That is why I enjoy working at New Mission
High School helping families and teachers prepare teens
to become life long learners.
What Part Of The Work Has Brought Excitement and Accomplishment?
As a Family Coordinator for the past 7 years, I am very fortunate to have touched the lives of many students by encouraging teens to follow their dreams.and by advocating for parents who want the best opportunities and education for their children.
When students and families visit our school to share their successes,
it is very rewarding to know that I have helped to make a difference.

What Brought you To The Family/Community Engagement Work?
My name is Sandra McIntosh and I work at English High School. I started working as a paraprofessional and worked in the English High Library for six years before being tapped to be the Parent Coordinator because I had children here at the time. After 6 years as a parent coordinator, I was made a Family & Community Outreach Coordinator.
What Part Of The Work Has Brought Excitement and Accomplishment?
I am committed to this work because I was a parent here at English and know how I was treated. I want to make it better for every person who comes to this school. I was not made to feel very welcomed here and so I vowed to help make a difference. The thing that excites me the most is just coming to work. I never know what I will find, I love the children (most of them), and I enjoy my staff. I love helping people and so this is a part of my personality.

What Brought you To The Family/Community Engagement Work?
For as far back as I can remember, I have always been in the work of advocacy whether it was for my children, my family, my friends or myself. A single mother, at the time, and a parent of a child with special needs, I struggled with the system myself. I wished there was someone in the school to help me understand the process. After entering the non-profit world in a role that allowed me to build on my strengths of being compassionate and having a desire to teach and learn from others and because I was a very involved parent at my children's schools, I learned of this job opportunity and was eventually hired in this position at my son's school.
What Part Of The Work Has Brought Excitement and Accomplishment
My favorite part about this job is knowing that I am helping families and students build efficacy around navigating the Boston Public Schools as well as helping them to become more self-sufficient. It is very gratifying to know that I can positively impact the lives of families and students and that it is appreciated.

What Brought you To The Family/Community Engagement Work?
I have always worked within education. I am extremely passionate about it and I strive to ensure that Black and brown students (all students) are properly prepared and supported to enhance their success later in life. ( I have worked as please see my resume if you need this info)
I enjoy working with everyone at all levels. There is something learned and gained from all.
I am excited when I see the fruits of our labor blossom. I love when the students come back and tell me how life has been.
